Bootleg City: Rush in 1992
Just some bone-rollin' Canadians
Greetings, fellow residents of Bootleg City! I know it's been quiet on this front for several weeks, but it's been getting harder and harder to sneak into Mayor Wardlaw's vault since renovations on his mansion were completed. He's still in what I suppose we're calling the honeymoon phase with his new living quarters, which means he's been DoorDashing a steady stream of Mexican pizzas directly to the constantly locked door of whichever master suite he happens to be befouling on any given day.
Fortunately, he's been called away to attend to the latest planning session for the Wardlaw Monorail, which probably means he's arguing with a group of civil engineers as they try to explain why putting a waterslide on a moving public transit vehicle isn't a good idea, no matter how many premium-priced tickets he thinks it'll sell. But the torment currently being endured by those engineers is your gain, because I was able to scurry into the vault and grab this two-hour set from Rush's 1991-'92 tour in support of Roll the Bones.
I've never been a huge Rush fan myself; it took me a long time to get to a place where the band's smart songwriting and sharp musical chops drowned out (or at least complemented) the sound of Geddy Lee's voice. Still, I've long had a soft spot for the utter silliness of Bones' title track, and while I'm just guessing here, I suspect this tour represents Rush at the peak of their performing powers during this particular phase of their career. As an added bonus, this boot is longer than some of the other Rush sets in the vault.
I hear the unmistakeable beeping of a delivery truck in reverse — that must be the Mayor's weekly churro delivery making its way up the servants' driveway. Until next time, citizens!
