New Music Friday: 5/10/24

Here are the rules: I listen to all 100 tracks of Spotify's New Music Friday playlist, except for anything that rhymes the n-word with itself more than three times, any screamo or screamo-adjacent stuff, any CCM that reveals its true intentions in time for me to hit the skip button, and any egregiously corny modern country music, typically performed by a dude with two first names. Having sifted through this week's playlist, here's what I actively enjoyed:

"Boom Boom Back," Hinds featuring Beck
Hinds have been through some shit since releasing their last album, The Prettiest Curse, in 2020: Two members left the lineup, they broke up with their management, and they lost their record deal. But on the bright side, they apparently randomly bumped into everyone's favorite rumored but possibly not really a Scientologist at some film screening, and now he's the guest of honor on their new single, which is a hot blast of stomping, bratty pop fun. One door opens, another door closes, et cetera.
