Slavic Soul Party!
Checking in real quick-like
Apologies for missing this week's Cultural Consumption post — I was out of town yesterday, conducting an interview for one of the pending non-fiction book projects. And I know I owe you a New Music or Old Music Friday — I haven't decided which yet, given that this week's NMF was a little light on stuff I loved. I'll need to take a look at what went down on the Hot 100 this week in '84 before I chart a definitive course on that front. Whatever ends up coming should arrive tomorrow, because I'm out of time for today; the wife and I are taking the 16-year-old across state lines for a Slavic Soul Party! concert. That's the name of the band and a pretty solid description of what they offer, at least according to the show promoter, who promises "an unforgettable celebration of Balkan brass, jazz, and funk, set against the picturesque backdrop of a Vermont summer evening."
You don't get to hear all that in one place very often, and really, they had me at "brass" and "funk." Should be an unforgettable experience either way. For now, I leave you with the band's 2007 Teknochek Collision album. Enjoy!
