The Big Music
Sneaking in a playlist real quick-like
God willing, tomorrow will either bring me enough New Music Friday to write about or enough Old Music Friday to fill a post. Today conspired against me as far as having enough time to write anything real — but this morning, while reading a MOJO article about INXS, I was reminded that Mike Scott of the Waterboys coined the phrase "the Big Music" to describe the sort of po-faced, widescreen, aggressively anthemic rock 'n' roll being made by acts like U2, Simple Minds, Big Country, and the Alarm in the '80s. That was all it took to make me feel like listening to a playlist stuffed with the stuff, and when I couldn't find one, I decided to make one for myself. And you.
Please, pretty please, let me know in the comments if there are any songs you think I missed, especially if they weren't recorded by any of the aforementioned acts. And enjoy!
